Dear Eardley Family Member,

My grandparents - Elijah Eardley and Ann Hilditch Eardley - were born in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Elijah was born on May 19, 1853. Ann was born 5 November 1854, Bryan Street, Hanley, England. Prior to their marriage, Elijah lived in Sneyd Hill and Ann in Etruria Wood. They were married 2 August 1874 at the Parish Church, Etruria.

My grandparents emigrated to America in the 1880’s and settled in East Liverpool, Ohio. Elijah worked for the Ohio Penn Coal Company. Ann worked for the Homer Laughlin China Company. Elijah was naturalized a United States citizen on 2 November 1892.

Three of Elijah’s and Ann’s children - George (born 1875), Ada (born 8 September 1883), and Elizabeth - were born in England. Frederick, my father, was born in the United States 1 August 1890. It is believed that my grandparents had two other children, who died in England from smallpox vaccination.

Elijah’s parents were Henry Eardley and Elizabeth (Bessie) Kirkham Eardley. I believe that they resided at 151 Baddeley Edge, Norton, Stoke-on-Trent and that they had three children - Elijah, Agnes, and William.

I am now in the process of researching a family tree for the benefit of my children and grandchildren. I have obtained the addresses of approximately 1,500 Eardley families. In the hope that someone can provide me with helpful information about the Eardley family history, I am writing to every one of them. To date, I have received over 100 letters. They have been helpful and most interesting. Other than what I have noted above, I received no specific details about Elijah and his parents, or Ann.

If you have any Eardley family tree, or any other relevant information, Could you please contact me? I would greatly appreciate your help. After completing my research, I would be happy to share the results with you. If you have any advice or suggestions, please call, write or fax me. If you have already received mail from me, I apologize for this letter.

Thank you very much for your time and attention.

Sincerely,

Robert Jack Eardley
