Dear Reader

The Eardley Family Group feels that the story should be told of how so many Eardley family members, from around the world, came to gather at Audley on 15th July 2000.

You will remember that this memorable and happy family reunion was followed by a number of events leading to the restoration of the lovely East Window in the church of St. James the Great at Audley and the subsequent dedication of the restored window on Sunday 14th July 2002.

We have established a clear chronology of events, commencing from the date of the posting of the first letter from Robert Jack Eardley M.D., to the Eardley families on 16th November 1995. This gives us an obvious starting point for our story.

Author and local historian Robert S. Mayer will tell our story. Robert is also an Eardley Family member which immediately gives him an interest in our project and he has contributed already with many super articles in the Audley and District Family History Society’s Journal “Audley Historian.” He has very kindly agreed to write our story for submission and publication.

However Robert needs our help! To give the story a rich, full and personal content we all need to contribute our own memories and experiences of our involvement in the events mentioned - The Family Gathering -The Restoration and Dedication of the Window etc.

So that YOU can be part of our story, will you please recall your own personal thoughts and experiences of the period of time that we are remembering? How did you, for example, first hear of an American Eardley researching the genealogy of his family? How did you respond to his letters? Were you researching your own family history? Were you able to visit Audley for the Eardley Reunion or subsequent events? Do you have any especially fond memories – memories of people you met? Did you travel from far or near - what were your thoughts of the day – what was your reaction when you first saw the restored window?

There are so many questions we could ask of your memories and we hope that you will share them with us, however small or seemingly insignificant they may seem.

Your memory, your story, your experience will be part of the “Eardley Story”.

Please write to Robert before the end of August 2005 preferably, or you may wish to put your contribution onto the bulletin board of the Eardley Family website. www.eardley.org.
