Merry Christmas Eardley's,
I am trying to find out more information about Enid Margaret Eardley who was a painter based in Beaconsfield in England. I believe she may have passed in the late 90's.
I have been in touch with the Victoria & albert Museum in London who provided the following info:
Dear John Ford
Enid M. Eardley was a member of the Society of Women Artists (SWA) and
I believe that the SWA's annual exhibitions were held at the Royal
Institute Galleries in 1919 and again from 1948 until 1969. According
the publication The Society of Women Artists Exhibitors 1855-1996,
Volume 2 E-K,edited by Charles Baille de Laperriere, Eardley exhibited
with at the SWA annual exhibitions in 1966 to 1986, and 1988 to 1991.Her name is given as Mrs Enid M Eardley, and her address is listed as
Piebalds, Burkes Road, Beaconsfield, Bucks in 1969. In 1975 she is
listed as living at Pippins, Crutch Lane, Jordans, Bucks, and in 1986 as
at Stable Cottage, The Broadway, Old Amersham, Bucks. The publication lists the titles of all paintings exhibited by Enid M
Eardley but does not include one called 'Matthew Ford'. However, there
are no titles given for the works which she exhibited in the 1971
exhibtion, only catalogue numbers (no.s 346, 418, 439 and 559). We hold
an archive of material relating to the Society of Women Artists, which
includes exhibition catalogues, but unfortunately we do not have the
exhibition catalogue for 1971. The V&A's National Art Library does, I
think, have a copy of the 1971 exhibition catalogue so I will forward
your enquiry on to my colleagues there (nal.enquiries@vam.ac.uk) so they
can check to see if the catalogue includes the titles of these works.Interestingly, Enid Eardley exhibited paintings with the titles
'Claire Ford' (1979) and 'Emma Ford' (1980) with the SWA.With best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Alexia Kirk
