My brother John, from West Calder in Scotland, has been trying to put together a family tree. You may have read his letter in the "Letters from the Eardley family", elsewhere on the web site.
I have now had sight of some of his findings and am begining to doubt whether we are indeed Eardley's, as our name in the documents which I have is consistently shown as Early, with a few minor Eardly, Earley's thrown in for good measure.
We seem to have arrived at Eardley, through my grandfather's Parish Priest having entered this information on his baptismal certificate. The Catholic Church had a big influence over Irish immigrants into the UK, particularly Scotland and it is known that what they said was in a great number of cases taken as fact.
However this is my personal slant on what MAY have happened, and I would like to be more certain of the facts. I do not want to disclaim my name through ill informed conjecture.
Therefore I am appealing for any information which other Eardley's may have on the following decendants, taken from the 1901 Census Of Ireland.
1.John Early Head Of Family age 41 2.Maria Wife age 44 3.Patrick Eldest son (My Grandfather)age 14 4.Mary Daughter age 12 5.James Son age 10 6.Bridget Daughter age 8 7.John Son age 6
The address on the Census form for the family ;
County Roscommon,,District Loughallen, Townland Glasdrummin or Glasdrummir.
I am reliably informed that both of my great aunts emmigrated to the US and settled in Ohio, from then on in I am afraid I have no further information. Also my Grandfather, Patrick, made his home in East Calder, Midlothian, Scotland.
If anyone can provide "the missing link" I would appreciate them geting in touch.
