The marriage certificate of William Eardley and Mary Ellen Maydew will list the name and occupation of William's father. By knowing William's father's name, an enumeration of the family in the 1881, 1891, and 1901 census records can be found. The census record will give William's parents' names, ages and birthplaces. Their marriage record can then be found, etc. I have a very large database of Eardley names, birth/death information in my genealogy database. There were several William Eardleys who were born abt 1878 in Wolstanton, so it is necessary to know his father's name.
