Carolyn. The gist of the message is contained in'Matters in general'posted in early April. It would be for the Webmaster to repost it and would require Jack's permission and resources.
Frank Eardley seems to have nailed down a definite connection between Sir George and Audley. His grandfather was William Eardley(gent) married Elizabeth Morton(of Morton Hall). One of their children was Ralph -----father of Sir George. The Mortons apparently spent the winter in London and their connections gave Ralph the opportunity to become a Merchant Tailor.Sir George was in fact born in London. In early life he was a soldier in Holland. After his shipwreck in Bermuda---nine ships set out--allwere wrecked but they managed to construct two ships The Deliverance and The Patience from the wreckage.Arriving in Jamestown in May 1610 they found only 60 gaunt survivors of the 500 or so they expected.Sickness and Indian attacks had almost destroyed the infant colony.George dealt with the indians and became a dominant figure in Virginia. He was knighted at Newmarket by King James during celebrations to mark the Christening of the Prince of Wales on his return.
