APRIL-EARDLEY GROUP MEETING
Posted By: David W. Eardley (Audley)
Date: Tuesday, 3 April 2001, at 6:45 p.m.
In a recently published article detailing highlights of the year 2000 in a North Staffordshire village, were the words: "THE NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN EARDLEY DAY IN AUDLEY WHICH SAW EARDLEYS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD DESCEND ON 'LITTLE OLD AUDLEY' (WHERE THE NAME ORIGINATED)" unquote. This was written by someone with no connection with the Eardley family, but is a common sentiment with many people in the locality. People are still talking and writing about the July 15th Eardley reunion, this is helped by the local publicity derived from the Eardley Window Appeal Fund and the monthly Eardley Group Meetings.
The meeting held in March was well attended and discussed in depth agenda items which included the status of the Eardley Window Appeal fund and how we stimulate further income. Suggestions made at the Group Meeting included a concert by the Audley Male Voice Choir and guest artistes to take place in the church and be sponsored by the Audley Eardley families, with the whole proceeds from the concert being donated to the Eardley Window Appeal fund. Another suggestion was the provision of an Eardley CD ROM which amongst other items would contain a permanent 'snapshot' of the Eardley web site, which would enable permanent free access. These would be made available at a modest price with the proceeds again going to the Window restoration appeal. Another Eardley family member brought along some exquisite silver pendants which he had made and whicn had been Hall-marked in the millennium year, these would be offered to the group to either auction or by means of a lottery, make a valuable contribution to the fund. The video recordings of the re-union day are being compiled into a single tape, copies of which will also be sold in aid of the Window Appeal.
Another agenda item discussed was the problem of communication we have with all the Eardleys who do not have access to a net linked computer. A useful discussion took place on this topic and we will hopefully report what actions we are taking following the next meeting.
Much has been said about the Audley connection with Sir George Yeardley(Eardley) the first Governor of Virginia. The latest information about the work done to verify the link was discussed and we are hopeful that a conclusion will be the instigation of a twinning of Audley with Williamsburg, Virginia.
The enthusiastic discussions which took place around the agenda items by the Eardleys present at the meeting resulted in the planned agenda not being fully discussed, so the items requiring further debate which include the proposed Open Day at St. James Church in the Summer will be carried over to the next meeting, which is on WEDNESDAY 11TH APRIL AT 7.45PM, AGAIN THE VENUE WILL BE IN THE COCKTAIL LOUNGE AT THE BOUGHEY ARMS PUBLIC HOUSE which is situated on the corner of Church Street and Nantwich Road , Audley.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE............................!!
David.
