During World War II two Eardleys died while commanding tanks:
Captain (US) Ronald V Eardley: 21st Tank Battalion, 10th Armored Brigade. Captain Eardley was killed in action on the 1st March 1945. He won the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
Captain John Vere Eardley-Wilmot: Governor General's Foot Guards (Canada). Captain Eardley died of wounds after an 88mm shell hit his tank on 15 Aug 1944.
If any one has any further information on these Eardley heroes would you contact me by E Mail at the attached address.
Regards
Robert
