R.Jack Eardley`s Ancestors

It was great to meet up with Jack Eardley again during his autumn visit to Staffordshire. We first met by accident in London earlier this year at the Family Records Centre in London when I sat down at Jack`s table in the refreshment room. Conversation soon turned to our searches, and when Jack said "Eardley" I was quite taken aback, and able to pull out a tree of my own ancestors to show him. As yet there`s no connection established, but who knows what the future holds? When we met up again in November we spent an interesting day together in Stafford (my home town) and visited the William Salt Library and the County Records Office, where we folowed up the James Eardley who married at Newcastle in 1783. He was a yeoman farmer of "Stoke parish", and he appears in the Newcastle Land Tax records of the time, renting from one Mr. John Eardley. He`s also a "Mr." Father and son? A James Eardley was baptised 1758 at Whitmore, a neighbouring parish, son of John and Elizabeth. Note that both Newcastle and Norton were part of the ancient parish of Stoke-upon-Trent. Perhaps the mystery of who James Yardley of Norton was has had some more light shed on it... Here`s wishing everyone Season`s Greetings, and looking forward to the meeting in the New Year!
