In Response To: 304 years since Thomas Yardley arrived (Ralph Yardley)

thanks Ralph for reminding all that some Yardleys retained the name, while local accent changed it to Eardley in north staffs, but not in the Caldecot , Cheshire branch. U.S. genealogists would like these further details below re. the 1704 Bucks county landing of Thomas Yardley's two youngest sons, Thomas and Richard :- baptised 19/12/1675 and 29/12/1681 respectively at St. Michael's, Horton. It's very sad that the three grown sons of William Yardley and Jane Heath, born at the still standing Dairyhouse, Horton (Enoch, Thomas and William), should die in their prime of an epidemic in winter 1702/3.
Thomas's establishing of a ferry across the Delaware is well known, but less of Richard Yardley's flour mill at Solebury. His will of 1761 actually spells Yeardly, and sons Enoch, William, Benjamin, Thomas, Samuel and Richard, plus daughter Mary Harvey listed. There must have been contact with England because the names match exactly family forenames over generations in north staffordshire. It seems reasonably obvious that Richard, Samuel and Benjamin Yardley who are on the Rutherford county, Virginia petition of 1790, must be of this line, but more birth records of Bucks county are reqired.
bye pete
p.s. At some point I will publish details as to how many Yardleys and Eardleys can put in a claim for the British throne, and reclaim the lost American colonies.
