Samples of bone cut from a skeleton buried beneath a Suffolk Church in England are to be tested to help identify the remains of an Englishman many believe to be the a little known founding father of he United States.Bartholomew Gosnold from Suffolk oversaw an expedion to the new World in early 1600,more than 20 Years before the Pilgrim Fathers arrived on the Mayflower. The expedition led to the founding of Jamestown,Virginia in 1607 the first English settlement.Archaeologists working at Jamestown Fort recently found a grave they believe to be Gosnolds, butuntil now had no way of identifying the skeleton inside. In an attempt to confirm whether the remains were Gosnolds, the archaeologists approached the Church of England for permssion to extract DNA samples from the skeleton of Gosnolds sister Elizabeth Gosnold Tilney, who was buried at All Saints Church in Shelley,Suffolk. For the first time ,the Church of England agreed to such a scientfic investigation.Full text in The Guardian Paper U.K.18/6/05
